Privacy notice

Updated: 9 September 2026

This notice covers the DailySip version using Apple WeatherKit for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and the DailySip pages at appsbymow.com. DailySip requires no user account. Drinking history and health data are processed on your devices. The optional weather feature connects to Apple. This version contains no advertising or analytics SDKs and no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

2. Data on your devices

DailySip processes drink amounts and timestamps, goals and progress, glass sizes, units, reminder settings and onboarding status. Goal calculations may use body weight, height, activity, workout times, body temperature and manually selected daily factors, such as creatine, protein or salt intake, alcohol, sauna, heat and fever/illness.

The app stores settings, calculated daily values, temporary weather data and a local copy of confirmed water entries. Entries include identifiers, time, amount, source app and, where applicable, a deletion marker. They support the interface, statistics, reminders and reliable device synchronization. AppsByMow operates no server for your drinking history and has no remote access to your local app or Health data.

The legal basis for the app functionality you request is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Optional access to health data is based on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) and, where health data are involved, Article 9(2)(a) GDPR. Providing personal inputs is not required by law. Missing inputs or permissions limit the features that depend on them. A fixed goal can replace automatic goal calculation.

3. Apple Health and health data

With your permission, DailySip requests access to these HealthKit categories: dietary water, body mass, height, steps, body temperature, active energy, exercise minutes and workouts. Workout information includes time, duration and available energy values used for the goal and pace calculation. The app writes only water entries to Apple Health. On iPhone, eligible entries created by the app can be deleted from Health. Manage entries from other sources in Apple Health.

You choose which categories are available in Apple’s permission dialog. Denied permissions or a locked device may cause queries to return no data or fail. Previously confirmed local entries are therefore not erased solely because a Health query is empty. Health and other health-related data are not used for advertising, tracking or marketing, sold, or sent to the weather provider.

You can revoke Health permissions in Apple Health or your devices’ privacy settings at any time. This stops the respective future Health access; it does not automatically erase existing local copies or Apple Health entries. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of previous processing. See section 8 for deletion.

4. Watch, widgets and shortcuts

The iPhone and Watch apps exchange water entries, deletion markers, selected settings, daily factors, calculation inputs and daily results through Apple WatchConnectivity. Transfers may be queued while disconnected and retried later. Identifiers prevent duplicate counting; deletion markers prevent delayed old messages from restoring an active entry.

Widgets and Watch complications read shared local app data such as intake, goal, glass sizes and pace. These local App Groups are intended for the associated DailySip components. Widgets do not make weather requests. Siri and Shortcuts use the amount you specify to record a drink; speech processing and system services follow your Apple settings.

DailySip has no proprietary cloud storage service. Apple Health synchronization or device backups you enable are provided by Apple according to your settings and are separate from DailySip’s direct device synchronization.

5. Location and Apple WeatherKit

With location permission, DailySip can briefly obtain your location on iPhone or Watch. Before making a weather request, latitude and longitude are rounded to two decimal places. Only that coarsened location is passed to Apple WeatherKit to request a daily forecast and obtain its maximum temperature. Health data and daily factors are not included. DailySip does not track routes or request continuous location access.

Apple processes the weather request and the technical data needed for the internet connection. Apple states that WeatherKit uses location only to provide forecasts, does not associate it with personal identity and does not track it between requests. See WeatherKit and Apple’s Privacy Policy. DailySip also retrieves attribution and, where displayed, the Apple Weather logo from Apple; this requires an internet connection too.

Weather is optional. The legal basis for location access initiated by DailySip is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can deny or revoke permission in the system settings of each device. No new location is then obtained there for weather requests. Previously cached daily values or values received from your paired device may still be used temporarily. A fixed goal does not require weather adjustments.

DailySip locally stores the daily maximum, day, request time, provider and rounded forecast location, and may share these details between your paired iPhone and Apple Watch. A suitable forecast is reused until the end of the local calendar day. Further weather requests are made only after a detected move of at least 50 km from the forecast location or when no valid daily forecast is available. Each local calendar day allows at most two request attempts on iPhone and one on Watch; failed weather requests count too. Each device stores the dates and numbers of its attempts locally across app restarts. These counters contain no health data or location history. During active use, the app occasionally obtains an approximate location to detect substantial moves; with an existing daily forecast, at most once per hour. The last checked rounded location and check time are stored locally and replaced on the next check. Previous-day forecasts and forecasts unsuitable after a detected substantial move are not treated as current weather. Older cache files and daily counters may remain locally until overwritten or the app is removed. Missing weather is not replaced with fabricated values.

6. Reminders, external links and diagnostics

If you allow notifications, DailySip schedules local hydration reminders. AppsByMow runs no push server for this feature. Depending on your system settings, reminder content may appear on the Lock Screen or be mirrored to Watch. You can disable reminders in the app and in notification settings.

Privacy, support, weather attribution and review links open the relevant website or Apple service, whose own notice also applies. An email link opens your email app without sending a message automatically.

DailySip contains no proprietary analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK. Technical errors may appear in local system logs. Operating-system diagnostics and any TestFlight diagnostics follow Apple’s services and your settings. Do not send health data or complete system logs unless necessary for a support request.

7. Website and email hosted by STRATO

The website and info@appsbymow.com mailbox are hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. Page requests involve technical access data required to serve and secure the website, such as IP address, time, requested address, status code, browser and operating-system information. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, with a legitimate interest in secure, functional hosting. STRATO describes retaining visitor IP addresses for attack detection and prevention for a maximum of seven days; the visitor log files it provides contain anonymized IP/host details. See STRATO’s processing information.

The provided DailySip website uses no tracking cookies, advertising or analytics scripts. Images, fonts and scripts are served by the website’s own host. Language follows the page address; no browser language preference is stored for this purpose. Linked external pages are requested when you open their links.

When you email us, we process your sender address, message and voluntarily attached information or files to respond. The basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual or pre-contractual matters, otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR with an interest in handling your request. STRATO provides the mailbox. Requests are deleted after final handling once no longer needed for follow-up questions, evidence or legitimate legal claims. Statutory retention duties take precedence. Please generally avoid sending health data by email.

8. Retention and deletion

Drinking history and settings remain locally available for the app features you use. The initial water-history import includes up to 35 previous days, followed by incremental changes. The visible weekly chart does not mean older locally stored entries are automatically deleted after seven days.

Confirmed deletions are excluded from active intake totals. Local synchronization may retain deletion markers containing the identifier, original time, amount and source to prevent delayed messages from restoring an entry. This does not physically erase all local metadata.

This version has no general reset button. To remove local app data completely, delete DailySip on iPhone/iPad and the paired Watch together with its extensions; merely offloading the app is insufficient. Uninstalling does not automatically delete Apple Health data. Remove those separately in Apple Health if required. Retained, authorized Health data may be imported again after reinstallation. Manage remaining system backups and Health synchronization through Apple.

Weather and attribution are cached temporarily for display and reliability and replaced by newer data. AppsByMow does not receive a copy of these local records. Apple’s own services and retention follow its linked notices. Website and email retention criteria are described in section 7.

9. Recipients and international processing

STRATO provides hosting and email infrastructure. Apple provides services including WeatherKit, App Store, the operating system, WatchConnectivity and any Health synchronization and backups you enable. We do not transmit your drinking history to an AppsByMow server or advertising provider.

For its own processing relating to individuals in the European Economic Area, Apple identifies Apple Distribution International Limited in Ireland. Apple also describes international processing, including in the United States, and safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. We therefore do not claim all Apple services operate exclusively within the EU/EEA. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for details and contact options.

10. Your rights

Subject to the GDPR, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and data portability. You may withdraw consent for the future at any time. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation. Contact the controller in section 1.

AppsByMow cannot remotely access data stored solely on your devices and therefore cannot export or delete those records on a server. Local and Apple Health management options are described above; your statutory rights remain unaffected.

You can complain to a supervisory authority, particularly where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. In Baden-Württemberg, Germany: the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

11. Calculations and children

DailySip calculates guidance for hydration goals and daily pace. It makes no solely automated decision producing legal or similarly significant effects within Article 22 GDPR. Its results are not a medical diagnosis or individualized medical advice.

DailySip is not specifically directed at children. Where consent is required for a service offered directly to children, statutory requirements for parental authorization apply, including Article 8 GDPR.
