Privacy at Opsino

This notice explains data processing in the Opsino iPhone app and when visiting its website. The sections about in-app purchases and advertising apply from Opsino 1.1.2. Earlier paid versions do not contain advertising.

Camera, color identification and neutral calibration

Opsino uses the rear camera to estimate the color in your selected measurement area. Current camera frames and derived color values are processed temporarily in your iPhone’s memory. Neutral calibration to account for lighting also takes place on the device. Camera images may include people or personal belongings, so choose the measurement area deliberately.

In live color mode, Opsino does not create photo or video recordings in your library or upload camera images. The latest color reading and neutral calibration are held only in memory for the current session. The resistor archive you can choose to save locally is described separately below. We cannot access your camera images, photos or results.

Selected photos and the system photo picker

Photo mode uses the iOS photo picker. It shows your library in a system interface; Opsino receives only the image you select. General access to your photo library is not required. The selected image and derived color values are processed locally. Opsino does not edit or delete the original or upload the image for analysis.

If the selected image is stored only in iCloud, iOS may first download it through Apple’s services. This may require an internet connection. This retrieval by the system photo picker is distinct from the subsequent local color analysis in Opsino.

Purpose, legal basis and camera permission

Processing of image and color data serves only the color identification and calibration you request. Where personal data is processed under our responsibility, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR is the basis for providing the requested app function. Camera access also requires your separate iOS system permission. This technical permission is distinct from the legal basis for processing.

You may change or revoke camera permission at any time in iPhone Settings. Live readings are unavailable without camera access; photo mode can still be used. Local color analysis requires neither an account nor an internet connection. Purchase verification and advertising may require an internet connection; their data processing is explained separately below.

Controls and local retention

The measurement circle, color names, guidance and calibration are processed locally. When VoiceOver is enabled, the displayed results and guidance are announced using iOS accessibility features. Opsino does not use a microphone for this or send results to its own speech service.

In live color mode, camera frames are continuously replaced by new frames. The displayed color reading and neutral calibration are not saved permanently and are lost when the app process ends. Briefly switching to another app does not necessarily end that process. We do not operate a user account or our own server for your images or readings. In ordinary photo mode, a selected photo is processed temporarily in memory and released when that mode closes. Separate storage in resistor mode is described below.

Resistor mode and local archive

In resistor mode, you can take a photo with the camera or select one through the iOS photo picker. Opsino analyses the color code on your device. Detected or manually corrected bands, nominal value, tolerance and, where applicable, temperature coefficient are calculated locally. Aligning the photo for display does not change the original.

When you select “Save”, Opsino stores its own image copy and an entry containing the result, band markings, date and optional note in your iPhone’s private app storage. The archive remains after the app closes. Opsino does not write this copy to your photo library, edit or delete an original there, or upload archive data to its own servers for analysis or storage.

Storage serves the retrieval and editing of resistor entries you request. Where personal data is processed under our responsibility, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Camera access requires separate iOS system permission. Choose photos and notes deliberately, as they may include people or personal information.

Saved entries remain in app storage until you delete them in the resistor archive or remove the app together with its data. Deleting an entry removes its image copy and saved entry data; the original in your photo library remains. Depending on your device and Apple settings, local app data may be included in a device backup. Apple’s system features and privacy policy apply to such backups.

In-app purchases and existing access

Photo mode and resistor mode can each be unlocked with a permanent one-time purchase. Buying either mode removes ads from the app; the other mode remains a separate purchase. Existing purchasers of the paid app retain both modes and ad-free use.

Apple handles payment and purchase management. Opsino verifies Apple-signed transaction data, such as the product identifier, purchase date, original app version and any revocation, to unlock features and restore purchases. Opsino may contact Apple for this purpose. We do not receive payment details or send your images, notes or readings to Apple. Processing to fulfil and restore your purchase is based on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Locally stored access information remains until it is updated or the app data is removed.

Advertising with Google AdMob

The free version of Opsino includes advertising from Google AdMob. Buying either mode removes ads; existing purchasers of the paid app also keep ad-free use.

Opsino uses Google AdMob exclusively for Limited Ads, without personalization or cross-app advertising tracking. The app does not show a Google advertising consent dialog or request Apple’s tracking permission. The IDFA advertising identifier and Google’s Publisher First-Party ID are not used.

To deliver and display ads, Google may process IP addresses and approximate locations derived from them, technical device and app information, ad impressions and interactions, and diagnostic and performance data. Camera frames, selected photos, color readings and the resistor archive are not shared with Google. The website itself does not embed Google advertising scripts.

Limited Ads

Limited Ads disable personalization and features that require local advertising identifiers. Programmatic Limited Ads are enabled: Google may use cookies and local storage solely to detect invalid traffic and prevent fraud. The advertising SDK and ad content are also installed or cached on the device as part of normal app operation. Google explains this mode under Limited Ads.

For technical data processing initiated by Opsino for Limited Ads delivery, we rely on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is to fund and securely operate the free app through advertising that minimizes data processing. Where access to device information is strictly necessary for the digital service expressly requested, Section 25(2) of the German TDDDG applies.

Buying either mode stops further ad requests. It does not automatically delete data already processed by Google.

Google: recipients, transfers and retention

For users in the European Economic Area and Switzerland, the Google service provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google and participating ad partners may also process data outside the EU or EEA, particularly in the United States. Google explains transfer arrangements, such as adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses, in its data transfer information.

Google retains technical advertising data for periods that depend on their purpose; we do not set one uniform retention period. Local visit and advertising settings remain until they are updated or the app data is removed. Apple App Store and system services

Apple processes data for App Store downloads, installation and its own system services under its own responsibility. Depending on your Apple settings, this may include diagnostics and usage data. This is distinct from collection by Opsino. See Apple’s privacy policy. Apple may also process data outside the EU or EEA; that policy explains recipients and transfer arrangements. Opsino itself does not send camera images or readings to Apple or to its own servers.

International transfers and external links

Retention

• Visitor IP addresses for attack detection: a maximum of seven days according to STRATO; provided visitor logs contain anonymized IP/host details. This period concerns the security processing described by STRATO and is not a general retention period for all statistics.
• Contact requests and related notes: until final handling, and longer only where follow-up questions, evidence, legal claims or statutory retention duties require it.
